Take Control of Your Body with Pilates

Pilates is suitable for everyone and helpful for meeting numerous health goals, from aiding in recovery to promoting injury prevention and from building strength to improving mindfulness. So whether you’re recovering from surgery or just wanting to take better care of your body, whether you’re young or elderly – Pilates is for you.

With many opting to work from home and being forced into a more sedentary lifestyle recently, unknown aches and pains are on the rise. We’d love to help you meet specific health goals through Pilates, or simply introduce some movement into your daily activities.

1-on-1 Pilates

Personalised 1-on-1 Pilates Sessions

Our Pilates classes are 1-on-1 sessions that last 1 hour each. Your instructor will learn about your health history, any current pains or aches, and health goals you’d like to achieve through Pilates. They may also walk you through an assessment to better understand your body. With this information, they will devise a personalised programme of exercises and Pilates movements carried out on a mat or specialised Pilates equipment.

Endless Health Benefits

Pilates has a wide range of benefits for people of all demographics:

Build Strength

Pilates is great for building strength, especially for developing deep abdominal muscles that support the core. This helps keep your abdominal muscles tight and toned, supporting full body balance and stamina.

Prevent Injuries

Practising Pilates makes you less prone to injury as the body is conditioned to move more effectively. It keeps muscles in balance and enhances body awareness, coordination, and mental connection.

Recover Faster

Pilates is proven to assist and promote recovery as part of a rehabilitation programme following injuries and surgeries by helping improve range of motion, blood flow, flexibility, and more.

Improve Posture

Pilates helps to restore and maintain proper postural alignment. It can enhance spinal, scapular, and joint flexibility as well as lower back and abdominal musculature.

Increase Balance

Pilates not only improves strength, but balance and gait. Training balance not only improves stability, but also results in improved coordination and reaction time.

Tone Your Muscles

PIlates tones the body and forms lean muscle. As you build strength, you will notice greater muscle strength and firmness, without increased muscle mass or bulk.

Meet Our Pilates Instructor

Fiona Ho

“Be in control of your body and not at its mercy” – Joseph Pilates.

That is the guiding philosophy of Fiona since she was diagnosed with degenerative disc and spondylolisthesis in her early 20s which her doctor attributed to her mountain climbing days. Frustrated at the lack of results from traditional forms of treatment, Fiona was introduced to Pilates and soon mastered control over her own body.

Since then, she is fully convinced of the benefits of Pilates which made her switch from her previous sedentary corporate career to her current Pilates instruction. She enjoys meeting people from all walks of life in the course of her work and seeing clients benefit from their Pilates sessions. Witnessing how her clients are able to return to the activities that they love, gives her great joy and satisfaction. Fiona has a keen interest in clients requiring rehabilitation, especially back related issues. And being a mum herself, both pre/post partum programs, which have kept her supple yet strong throughout and after her pregnancy.

She holds numerous certifications including the Polestar Pilates Education – Comprehensive Studio Certification, Pre/Postnatal Pilates Specialist Program from The Centre for Women’s Fitness, the Oov Fundamental Level 1 and Apparatus certification, TRX Suspension Training, Anatomy Trains in Motion, and more.

FAQ

What is Pilates?
Initially known as Contrology, Pilates is a full body, low impact exercise. It focuses on your smaller and deeper muscles, such as your core, to support your body’s structure.
Why do Pilates?
It is a great complementary exercise to other forms of workouts or trainings as you do them with the right posture and the body awareness gained from Pilates helps you do them effectively as well. Also, as creatures of habit, we do our daily activities in a certain way and we might find our muscles have imbalances, which Pilates can help counter that.
Who can benefit from Pilates?
Everyone! It can be both a low impact exercise for those going through rehabilitation as well as high intensity for those who would like to gain overall strength, flexibility and tone.
How is Pilates different from other types of exercises?
Unlike other forms of exercises and trainings, Pilates works on your smaller and deeper
muscles which support your structure.
How is Pilates different from Yoga?

Both Yoga and Pilates are able to help build control, strength, endurance and balance in the body.

Yoga originated in India, is an offering of the Indus valley civilization that seeks to promote both the material and spiritual well-being of humanity. Modern yoga, the form practised in studios, gyms and homes the world over today, can be seen as just as complex as the lineages that have come before it. The weight of the body is used as a resistance for the exercise.

Pilates focues on the physical conditioning. Besides mat work, different exercise machines are involved in Pilates. The focus is on the core of the body by which the rest of the body can move freely. The balance is apparent between flexibility and strength.

Which is better, yoga or pilates?

Both Yoga and Pilates are able to help build control, strength, endurance and balance in the body.

If you want to increase your strength and flexibility, Pilates might be the better choice. If you want to improve your control and flexibility, you might choose yoga. Still, much depends upon the classes available to you, your purpose of participating in this and your goals.

I have just recovered from my injury, is it safe to start doing Pilates?
It is safe to commence your sessions once you are signed off by your Doctor or Physical Therapist that you are fit for exercise.
Can Pilates help me lose weight?

Pilates is able to help improve strength and tone muscles. However, in order to lose weight healthily, Pilates will likely be helpful when done in combination with cardiovascular exercises as well as maintaining a healthy and balance diet.

How long is each Pilates session?
The duration of each session will be 1 hour.
What can I expect at my first Pilates session?
Your instructor will be getting to know your health history as well as goals you will like to achieve from your sessions. With what was gathered, you may be taken through an assessment of your movements before commencing your exercises on either the mat or one of the Pilates equipment.
What do I need to bring / wear to my Pilates sessions?
Come with a towel, a pair of anti-slip socks and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
