Don’t Let Pain Hold You Back

Injuries, aches, and painful conditions can make life miserable. Pain holds you back from doing what you live and prevents you from living your fullest life. Whether you’re experiencing pain in a limb or joint, have a nagging injury, are recovering from a surgery, or are suffering from another condition – we want to help you alleviate your pain and get back to feeling yourself.

We aim to help you understand what has brought you to see us so that you will be able to care for yourself and hopefully, prevent a receurrance of the same issues!

Tailored Recovery Plans

Regardless of your injury or condition, our expert Physiotherapist will take a thorough history of your condition to understand your symptoms, identify the root cause of your issue, and then treat it with a customised, tailored plan based on your goals. Physiotherapy treatment at the Rehab Centre might include:

  • Advise and Education: Nothing can be more helpful when you begin to understand what is causing your pains and discomfort and you will be more able to take charge of your recovery and your life.
  • An Exercise Plan: Exercises can help you regain strength, range of motion, and stamina as you recover from injuries or surgeries.
  • Joint Mobilisations: Joint mobilisations are a form of manual therapy that can help decrease pain and improve range of motion.
  • Soft Tissue Massage: Soft tissue massage is another form of manual therapy involving hands-on techniques to break adhesions and optimise muscle function.
  • Shockwave: Shockwave treatments deliver shock waves to injured soft tissue to reduce pain and promote healing.
  • Dry Needling: Dry needling can decrease pain and tightness, increase blood flow, and reduce pain in tightly bound muscle fibres.
  • Electrotherapy: Electrical nerve stimulation primarily relieves pain, but can also reduce inflammation and strengthen muscles.

You may also benefit from pilates and fitness training on your way to recovery and beyond.

Meet Our Principal Physiotherapist

Jansen is our Principal Physiotherapist who graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2014. Upon returning to Singapore, he worked at Singapore General Hospital rotating through Burns, Geriatrics, Cardiopulmonary and Outpatient Musculoskeletal departments.

Jansen later joined the Singapore Sports Institute where he treated our National Athletes and travelled with them for multiple major competitions such as the Asian Games and SEA Games. In 2019, he obtained his Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from Curtin University.

Jansen is a strong believer of the bio-psychosocial model, which involves looking at treatment for the whole person and not just a specific condition in isolation, to achieve the best possible outcomes for each individual. He understands that the recovery process is not an easy one. He enjoys embarking on the journey with his patients to help them return to their daily function.

You can find Jansen at our Bukit Timah Clinic

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function through the use of physical methods such as exercise and manual therapy when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Moreover, Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that seeks to provide a better quality of life for patients throughout their entire lifespan, to help with the prevention of injury and also to improve overall well-being.
Who needs Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy can benefit a large variety of individuals throughout their whole lifespan and
across a wide range of illnesses and conditions. Even though Physiotherapy is commonly
associated with helping people with musculoskeletal conditions (muscle, joint and bone problems), we also assist with improving overall physical function for a better quality of life.
Will Physiotherapy Hurt?
Depending on the treatment being used, there might be some discomfort during the treatment session. However, the Physiotherapist will do their best to ensure that the pain and discomfort during the session is minimised as much as possible.
What Does a Physiotherapy session Include?
A Physiotherapy session typically involves taking a thorough history of your condition to
understand your symptoms and your condition better. The physiotherapist will then do a
detailed physical assessment to determine the areas which might be impaired and formulate
a treatment plan.

Depending on your condition and illness, the physiotherapy treatment may include a solid dose of education for your condition, joint mobilisations, soft tissue massage, therapeutic modalities such as shockwave and dry needling or electrotherapy. Expect to be sent home with a home exercise program to ensure prompt recovery.

Do I Need a Referral To See A Physiotherapist?
No, physiotherapists are highly trained to identify and treat a wide variety of conditions from a detailed history taking and a physical assessment. However, most insurance companies require a physician’s referral to be able to claim the costs of physiotherapy, thus it is advisable to visit your GP or specialist prior to visiting us.

What Our Physio Patients Are Saying

Physiotherapist Derek is very detailed in his diagnosis and caring. He will follow up on the condition of his patient through personal messages to ensure his patients have no problem executing his recommended exercises at home. Thank you so much, Derek.

– Kelvin Hor

Derek’s skill in manual therapy has helped in relieving some of the pain in my shoulder and neck. He was patient in explaining to me the science behind the pain caused by my injuries. I saw him on 2 occasions, once when I had ankle injury and more recently for shoulder/neck injury.

– Kathleen Chew

I had a knee problem that had become quite debilitating to the point I could hardly walk around the house. After seeing knee specialists, paying for MRI and osteopath sessions there was no improvement. Then I was referred to Derek and the team at PhysioX. I found Derek to be thorough, a clear communicator and knowledgeable. I am pleased to say that my knee pain has completely gone and my overall leg musculature greatly improvident.
